It is the inflammation of the orbital tissue; it does not spread to other tissues or places in the body.

Treatment: Mild cases can go away without treatment, and the most severe cases mostly respond well to corticosteroid treatment. If the condition is very serious, the swelling can press on the eyeball and damage it. Surgery may be necessary to remove part of the bones from the orbit to relieve pressure.
