STEVENS JOHNSON SYNDROME

It is a major erythema multiforme, that is, the most serious of its manifestations, usually caused by reactions to medications, rather than infections. It is a severe variant of erythema multiforme, consisting of a hypersensitization reaction that affects the skin and mucous membranes and the eyes. Additionally, some other organs may be involved and have high mortality rates.

Treatment: Pain relievers to relieve discomfort, medications to reduce inflammation of the eyes and mucous membranes (topical steroids). Antibiotics to control infection, when needed.
