CONTACT DERMATITIS

It is an inflammation of the eyelids that usually occurs with irritation and periocular pain, due to allergy or due to contact with a substance that causes irritation in that area. It is an inflammatory response that usually occurs after exposure to allergens, which can be drugs, preservatives, cosmetics, or metals. On first contact or exposure, sensitization occurs, and an immune reaction develops on subsequent contacts. This reaction is mediated by a type IV hypersensitivity response.

Treatment: ranges from proper care and cleaning to the use of antihistamines or corticosteroids.
