It is a subtype of inflammatory disease of the orbit, idiopathic, in which a single extraocular muscle is usually involved (but may be multiple), with unilateral presentation, although it is intrinsically a bilateral condition.
Treatment: The one caused by virus does not need treatment and varies depending on the cause. Those of inflammatory origin may require treatment with medications that suppress the immune system, such as prednisone, azathioprine, and methotrexate.
