CORNEA ULCER

It is an eye infection that causes the formation of an open ulcer in the cornea, caused by: contact lenses with poor hygiene or excessive use, injuries, disorders, drugs and nutritional deficiencies.

Treatment: it will depend on what caused it and should be started as soon as possible to prevent possible scarring of the cornea that can lead to a worsening of vision:

  • Antibiotic drops, antifungals, or antivirals to relieve pain, intensively in the first hours or days with the aim of eradicating the germ that causes it.

  • Dilate the pupil with atropine or scopolamine, they can relieve pain and reduce the possibility of complications.

  • If the corneal ulcer were of a more serious type, surgery or corneal transplantation may even be needed to replace the damaged cornea.
