DACRIOCISTITIS

It is an infection of the lacrimal sac, which is usually a consequence of an obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct, due to an obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct.

Treatment: antibiotics (orally or intravenously), anti-inflammatories and / or analgesics to avoid complications. If an abscess has formed, the retained material must be surgically drained. If it becomes chronic or recurrent episodes occur, surgery is necessary and the most used procedure is dacryocystorhinostomy, which consists of creating a new duct for drainage of the lacrimal sac and nose. In the case of the treatment of dacryocystitis of the newborn, the procedures can be conservative and / or innocuous (compression of the lacrimal sac) or surgical through the probing of the lacrimal duct.
