The keratome is a degenerative, non-inflammatory pathology of the cornea, characterized by an alteration in its shape, which becomes irregular, because of the alteration of one of its main components: a protein called collagen. As the cornea takes on a more irregular shape, it causes the development of progressive myopia and irregular astigmatism, creating additional problems with distorted and blurred vision. They can also suffer from glare and high sensitivity to light. Keratoconus patients often experience changes in their eyeglass prescription every time they go to the eye doctor.

Treatment: In the mildest form of keratoconus, glasses or soft contact lenses may help. But as the condition progresses, it will require CrossLinking, corneal rings, and corneal transplantation.
